while i wait for you
five senses, (plus one), in a poem
Tonight, my dreams are a xylophone of misarranged treble clefs. To catch the sound of your breath, the shell of my ear becomes a butterfly net. Then, along the pine—and the sigh—of the moonrise, your liminal ghost speaks to mine.
While I wait for you to fall toward my arms' soft nest, I hug the velvety molecules of you with the warmth of my chest, hoping your air enamors of my floury, dense earthiness—and your wings grow an ache to bud vines.
And while you drink up your cup of celestial wine, I'll eat grapes here on Earth, until you decide that it's time to (sip milk from) the bottle that's me—my design.
I imagine you smell just like jasmine—
I see your smile in every cloud in the sky.
